Eating Out / Friargate - under the spotlight
Friargate is Derby's 'Georgian' street and is brimming with history.
Its name derives from the existence of a Dominican Friary which thrived here until the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII.
From 1700 onwards grand houses were built and fast became the place for the rich and famous to live and to this day remains one of the finest rows of Georgian houses in the country. A fine example is Pickford's House which is now a museum of Georgian and Victorian life.
Today, Friargate is the place to be for young professionals. The street is lined on both sides with top class restaurants and brasseries, pubs, wine bars and nightclubs.
The map below depicts some fo the many fine eating and drinking establishments that the city of Derby has to offer.
