Temple Mine, with its network of tunnels was acquired by the ancient custom of 'Nicking'. The mine has been worked since 1922 for flueorite and lead ore, and shows the variety of mining methods used.

The Centre occupies a building once used for producing silk and velvet cloth. Displays illustrate the life of the town from its inception to modern times. A gift shop, art gallery and restaurant are on site.

Visit Shardlow and its Heritage Centre for a fascinating insight into this 18th-century canal transhipment port. The Centre is housed in the earliest of the canal warehouses, refurbished and equipped for the village by Mansfield Brewery.
