Rowsley is close to the Wye and the Derwent rivers, and rather curiously is separated and split into two halves. The original is in between the two rivers, while the other section has grown around the old Midland railway station, hence being referred to locally as the ‘railway village’. The Peacock Hotel dates from the 17th century, and is a fine example of the period’s architecture. There is also the fine Cauldwell’s Mill, dating back to 1874, that replaces a former mill that was standing for over 4 centuries.
