Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton is famous throughout the world for its unique deposits of Blue John stone and houses some of the most beautiful cave formations in the UK.

About Treak Cliff Cavern

Treak Cliff Cavern has a unique history. Originally a working mine 300 years ago, it is now a major visitor attraction in the Hope Valley area of Derbyshire. Still a working mine, Treak Cliff Hill in Castleton is the only place in the world where the beautiful Blue John stone can be found.

Take a self-guided audio visit using your own smart phone, enjoy the amazing views across the Hope Valley, browse the well-stocked gift shop and catch your breath in our visitor centre, cafe and picnic areas. The cavern is open from 9:30am every day (except 25th December); the last entry is at 4.00pm (3.00pm between November 1st and February 28th).
