Visitor Centres

World-famous cotton spinning mill designed by Richard Arkwright and built in 1771. Inside there is a visitor centre with various exhibits, a café and shops.

The Blue John Cavern contains the unique Fluorospar only found in Castleton. Mining machinery is on show and guided tours are available.

Carsington Water is a large reservoir, owned and managed by Severn Trent Water and was built in 1991

Temporarily Closed A working flour mill, built in 1874 by John Caudwell, replaces the previous mill buildings that stood for centuries before.

A complex of buildings, formerly housing a corn mill, later converted to grind flint for the production of pottery. Visitors can trace the history of its arrival originally by narrow-boat, through the calcining, grinding, settling and drying processes. The museum building provides the historical background.

The Centre occupies a building once used for producing silk and velvet cloth. Displays illustrate the life of the town from its inception to modern times.
