The Haven

Located in the Historic market town of Bakewell, The Haven is central to local amenities and all the attractions the Peak District has to offer.

About The Haven

The Haven Bed & Breakfast, awarded 4 Stars by the Heart of England Tourist Board, is an ideal base for exploring Derbyshire’s awe-inspiring Peak District.

Leave the car and take a 5-minute riverside stroll on flat, paved paths across the park, play tennis, football, cricket rugby, or visit the children’s play area and open paddling pool, all set in the historic market town of Bakewell. The Haven B&B is central to many local amenities plus all the attractions that the Peak District has to offer, from the rugged northern Dark Peak to the more gentle valleys and gorges of the White Peak to the south.

The perfect choice for a well earned break

The ambiance of The Haven is relaxed and friendly, with clean, comfortable, well-appointed accommodation that is presented with pride. We can accommodate couples, families and small groups of up to eight persons. The ground floor suite, with its private entrance, offers both privacy and seclusion, and is a particular favourite with regular guests.

Start the day with a hearty breakfast - cooked to order and using local produce whenever possible. A leisurely five- minute riverside stroll into town will reveal many pubs and speciality restaurants, and a myriad of shops for both luxury and interest as well as necessities. Should you be with us on a Monday, the market with its many stalls is a must, and attracts people from across the county.

The Haven commands a magnificent view over Bakewell Park, the golf course and the wooded hills beyond. The park itself offers an all-weather tennis court, an excellent children’s playground including paddling pool and facilities for cricket, football and rugby. The river Wye borders the park, and a leisurely stroll along its course is thoroughly recommended. Feed the ducks, spot a variety of water birds and see the huge wild brown and rainbow trout swimming in crystal-clear waters amongst the water weed.

Monday is market day and attracts people from near and far. The Parish Church in Bakewell, whose spire can be seen from the Haven’s garden, is steeped in history dating back to the 10th Century, and the bridge over the river Wye itself dates back to the 16th Century. Step back in time and marvel at five centuries of history by visiting Bakewell’s Old House Museum. Built in the reign of Henry V111, this now houses a multitude of interesting artifacts. Then don’t forget to take home a Bakewell Pudding from The Bakewell Pudding Shop to share with family and friends.

Haddon Hall, just 1 mile away, is an 800–year-old medieval and Tudor manor house which, in recent years, became the setting for the BBC's production of Jane Eyre. A little further away (3 miles) is Chatsworth House, the ancestral home to the Dukes of Devonshire. This is also open to the public and was featured in Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice.

The Peak District, England’s first National Park, really has something for everyone, from castles and cable cars to caves and caverns, stately homes, steam trains and theme parks, woodland walks and rock climbing, sailing and fishing – all this with endless miles of walks and breathtaking scenery. The Haven is located at the centre of it all, and we are here to welcome you.

A word from Jerry, your host at The Haven.

"Knowing that our guests feel comfortable and welcome is important to us. Being ‘on hand’, should we be needed, takes commitment, yet the wonderful comments and cards we get from our guests make all the effort we put into our B&B worthwhile. We value our many loyal guests and would like to extend a warm welcome to those we have yet to meet".
