Burton upon Trent

About Burton upon Trent

Situated in East Staffordshire, Burton-upon-Trent is a good base from which to explore the Derbyshire Dales, the Peak District National Park and the attractions that East Staffordshire has to offer. The town itself is large and full of modern amenities, and also contains many breweries, which of course lend the town its label as the home of British brewing.

Benedictine monks first introduced brewing to Burton in the 11th century, and indeed the area still has many historical connections including the Benedictine Abbey that was founded in 1002, the remains of which can still be seen today.

Well worth a visit is the Bass Museum of Brewing that gives an insight into the history and methods of the brewing industry. The museum also houses Shire Horse Stables. The Marstons brewery also houses a visitor’s centre and operates tours throughout its site. The Brewhouse Arts Centre is a lively and highly popular venue for concerts, theatre, cinema, studios and galleries.

The local area contains many leisure opportunities that include golf courses, canals and reservoirs. The historic village of Tutbury is close by and the city of Derby is approximately only 8 miles away.
