Darley Dale
About Darley Dale
North of Matlock, this is both an industrial and a residential area that was once a railway village and also home to the Mill Close Mine – the last major lead mine in the Peak District. The mine closed in 1939.
Darley Dale is home to the Peak Railway which runs south to Matlock.
Of particular interest on the A6 southern route to Chatsworth house can be seen the Whitworth centre, a community hall built by the industrialist and philathropist Joseph Whitworth, for the benefit of his workers and local community.
