Celebrating Cromford

Annual Village Festival celebrating all that is Cromford

About Celebrating Cromford

We have an exciting weekend planned. The festival spans the village from North Street which celebrates it's 250th year, the Primary School and its playing field, down the Hill, the Promenade, The Mill, Good Luck Mine and the final destination - the river and St. Mary's.
There is plenty to see and take part in:
Friday evening - a family picnic, 18th Century games including a tug of war, dressing up in period costume up on the school playing field, treasure hunt, as well as a tour of the village with local expert starting from the Market Place.
On Saturday the Cromford Killer and Canter fell races start from the school where there is a summer fair. Cromford Institute on the Hill hosts historical displays and talks as well as childrens' activities including small animal handling, food and drink, the beautiful painted St Mary's Church will be open, New school open day in the Old Methodist Church with choir concert and Cream teas and stalls. Then next to the Millpond on Scarthin Promenade is music, dancing, circus performances and stalls - Guides table top games, WI cakes, Displays by Cromford Mills with costumed tours by re-enactors around our historic village, Good Luck mine display and tickets to go into the mine on Sunday as well as snail racing and other stalls. Masson Mill Museum and cafe will be open.
Sunday continues with pinch pot making and historical exhibition in the Institute, Open air songs of praise outside at St Mary's followed by open church with crafts and teas, our famous duck race on the river Derwent, a makers market at the Mill and to relax after a busy weekend, the beautiful hotel at Oak Hill hosts a garden party with a band for entertainment.
